The foresight of the founders of St. Vladimir Institute, the Ukrainian Self-Reliance League of Canada, together with the committed generosity and dedication of its many volunteers, donors and members, saw a home for the Institute become a reality in l963 with the doors of the present location opening in l969. It's one of four similar institutes in Canada; the others are located in Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton.
The Institute is:
- A non-profit charitable organization;
- An institution committed to showcasing the creativity of contemporary artists and talent exploring Ukrainian-Canadian identity, history, culture and experience;
- A residence centrally located downtown for university and college Canadian and foreign students;
- An accommodation for groups and individual students during summer months;
- A centre of cultural activities and programs for children, seniors and everyone in between;
- An available venue for meetings, banquets and theatre in a convenient downtown location;
- A research resource centre consisting of an outstanding library and a museum dedicated to Ukrainian-Canadian collections;
- A place for selected Orthodox liturgical services in a dedicated St. Vladimir Chapel conducted by a designated Institute Chaplain;
- A home for a number of Ukrainian-Canadian community organizations;
- The above and much more...
