The main purpose of the St. Vladimir Institute Library is to serve the needs of St. Vladimir Institute - its students, programs and related organizations. Committed to preserving Ukrainian cultural heritage and making its resources available, the Library materials and facilities are also open to the public in the Greater Toronto area.
The Library is both a specialized academic library of Ukrainian materials and an extensive collection of interest to the general public. It serves the needs of Canadian academic, community, school and library institutions and individual researchers, journalists and writers.
The Library also serves the informational, research and archival preservative needs of the Ukrainian community worldwide.
It's major strength is it's collection of Ukrainian history, language, literature, music, children's books and genealogical materials. Also, emphasis is placed on collecting Ukrainian-related material in English.
A special feature of the Library's collection is its rare Ukrainian books, newspapers and other materials, making it a valuable resource for scholarly research.
The Library houses more than 15,000 items including books, periodicals, videos, LPs, tape recordings, audiocassettes, CDs and microfilms. The Library also subscribes to current newspapers and journals.
The Library houses many of the same books as University of Toronto's Robarts Library. If a book is unavailable or taken out at Robarts Library, it may be available at St. Vladimir Library.
To ensure access to students, scholars, researchers, and the public worldwide, Library holdings have been entered into LibraryWorld - an Internet database online catalogue.
St. Vladimir Library continues to grow through purchases and generous support and gifts-in-kind of friends of the Library.
