Scholarship Program

Overview

St. Vladimir Institute members and donors recognize the high importance of education and leadership in the Ukrainian-Canadian community. As such, a number of these members have established scholarships in their names.

Currently, St. Vladimir Institute administers two scholarship funds, the Michael & Effie Bodnar Scholarship and the Alexander Anthony Lasko Scholarship.

Michael & Effie Bodnar Scholarship

Background

It was only a dream for Effie Bodnar as a young girl to even complete high school in Western Canada and even, more so, to live in a student facility with other young Ukrainians. Her dream never came true but she always valued and believed in education as shown in a very generous gift to us all. Mrs. Bodnar passed away October, 2000 at the age of 93.

These scholarships are made possible by funds ($150,000.) bequeathed in the Estate of Michael & Effie Bodnar to St. Vladimir Institute. To ensure scholarships are available in perpetuity, only interest earned on this gift will be used for the scholarships. Five are available this year. They have been established to provide assistance to full-time students residing at St. Vladimir Institute who are of Ukrainian background.

Amount: First Year Students: $500

Beyond First Year: $1000

The scholarships will be available on an annual basis and do not renew automatically but may be applied for each year. As outlined in her bequest, the funds are to be paid directly to St. Vladimir Institute on behalf of the student. The funds from the scholarship will be applied to the student's residence fee for the spring academic term.
