Job Posting: Financial Accounting Clerk

 

Founded as a non-profit charity in 1963, St. Vladimir Institute is the pre-eminent Ukrainian-Canadian cultural and academic centre in downtown Toronto. The Institute’s facilities include a 46-room post- secondary student residence, museum, art gallery, banquet halls, office spaces and a community theatre. St Vladimir’s serves as a meeting place for panel discussions, conferences and seminars and attracts academics and other speakers from across Canada, Ukraine and elsewhere. It is a venue for public meetings and social events for Ukrainian-Canadians in the GTA.

St Vladimir Institute is currently accepting applications for the part-time position of Financial Accounting Clerk. 

The Financial Accounting Clerk is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports for St. Vladimir Institute. S/he provides financial support to the Treasurer and Executive Director through bookkeeping, payroll, banking and reporting services. Under the direction of the Treasurer and Executive Director, the Financial Accounting Clerk maintains all necessary and appropriate records, files and processes to ensure the smooth and compliant financial operation of the organization, focusing on accuracy and transparency.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage invoicing and accounts receivable

  • Calculate and prepare cheques for payroll and accounts payable.

  • Prepare all payroll related reports and remittances.

  • Prepare and make and make bank deposits. Reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy.

  • Maintain accounting and financial records using a computerized software package.

  • Post monthly journal entries.

  • Assist Auditor in preparation of Annual Financial Statement.

  • Identify and implement possible improvements or efficiencies to the organizations financial operations.

Qualifications, knowledge and skills:

  • Degree or diploma in business or administration and certification in bookkeeping or financial management is preferred.

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, especially as they relate to not for profit organizations.

  • Strong computer skills. Preference will be given to candidates with proficiency with QuickBooks. Familiarity with NewViews2 software may also be an asset.

  • Working knowledge of Ukrainian is an asset.
