FREE Virtual Event / БЕЗКОШТОВНО

Learn to make a straw pavuk. “Pavuk" means spider in Ukrainian, and since spiders are considered a benevolent presence – these web-like mobiles bring good fortune and blessings to the home.

This craft harkens from Northern and Eastern Europe and can be found in most places where grain growing (and straw) is a key component of people’s lives. In Poland, they are known as pajaki, and himmeli in Finnish.

In this dark and immensely painful time, making pavuky can bring solace and peace. These golden spiderwebs are traditionally made to trap the bad energy in the house and transform it. Let us pray with our hands and gather virtually to make pavuky together.

In this workshop you’ll get the chance to learn the basic principles of the craft and create your own delicate mobile to hang in your home. Experience the golden light and sacred geometry as you work with the simple gifts of wheat and rye straw, linen thread, and beeswax.

Božena Hrycyna will demonstrate how to make the most basic elements that you can further build on to make a larger web.

In collaboration with Folk Camp and led by Božena Hrycyna, teacher, artist, and community organizer.

This workshop is offered in English
